Here's Why Microsoft Drops a Cloud Data Center Under the Ocean

Where tech companies like Facebook and Google prefer to move their data centers to colder countries to reduce their air conditioning bill, Microsoft has come up with an even better home for data centers while cutting high energy costs for cooling them: Under the Sea.

Here's what Microsoft says:

"50% of us live near the coast. Why doesn't our data?"

Building massive data centers underwater might sound crazy, but it is exactly something Microsoft is testing with its first submarine data center, dubbed Leona Philpot.

World's First Underwater Data Center

The testing is part of Microsoft’s plan dubbed Project Natick — an ongoing research project to build and run a data center that is submerged in the ocean, which the company believes, could make data centers faster, cost-effective, environmentally friendly and easier to set up.

Leona Philpot (named after the Halo character from Microsoft's Xbox) was tested last August, when engineers placed an enormous steel capsule a kilometer off the California coast, 30 feet underwater in the Pacific Ocean.

A single data center computing rack was placed in an eight-foot-wide steel capsule, which was covered in around 100 sensors to monitor every aspect of the underwater conditions: pressure, humidity, and, most importantly, motion.

The test ran from August to November last year (exactly 105 days) and the engineers said it was more successful than expected.

Why Underwater Data Center?

According to Microsoft, these are the main reasons for experimenting with underwater data centers:

1. Air conditioning cost is one of the biggest pain in running data centers. Traditional data centers are believed to consume up to 3 percent of the world's electricity.

2.   Properly configure the Security Question and Answer in the Email Account.
In the security option it shows security question and in case of forget password it may help you. And keep in mind that the question should be personal you friends and family could not answer this.

3.   Do Not Open Emails from strangers.

Characteristics of a Successful Student

1. Successful students attend classes regularly. They are on time. They listen and train themselves to pay attention. If they miss a class, they feel obligated to let the teacher know why before class begins, if possible, and their excuses are legitimate and reasonable. They make sure they get all missed assignments (by contacting the teacher or another student), and understand specifically what was covered in class. Successful students take responsibility for themselves and their actions.

2.  Successful students take advantage of extra credit opportunities when offered. They demonstrate that they care about their grades and are willing to work to improve them. They often do the optional (and frequently challenging) assignments that many students avoid.

Why do people find mathematics difficult?

Some general themes from the answers below...

  1. Mathematics is not difficult: Mathematics is no more difficult than other fields. Cooking is difficult. Ballet is difficult. However #2...
  2. Your lack of ability "hits you in the face": People find mathematics difficult because it is easier to realise that it is difficult. With other difficult tasks it is easier to fool one's self into believing that one is good at said task, but this doesn't work with mathematics. If you're bad at mathematics it will show you just how bad you are.

What Causes Students to Fail Courses in College?

Lack of Preparedness

The first year of college is often a major transition. Students leave home for the first time, balance work, school and other activities, and must make the majority of their life decisions independently. In some cases, students aren't mentally, emotionally or academically ready to succeed in college classes. Some lack the necessary motivation and work ethic. Others struggle with the emotional difficulties that come with being on their own. Colleges often offer personal counselors who work specifically with students trying to balance academics with personal life challenges.

Poor Attendance

One of the surest ways to fail a class is to consistently miss it. Some courses include grading components, such as in-class activities, pop quizzes and team projects that can't be made up. In many instances, the bigger issues is that you are out of the loop in a number of ways. Missing classes can lead to missed homework assignments, papers and projects, especially if you don't check in regularly with the instructor. You also miss critical discussions of topics and content, which can lead to poor performance on tests.

How to Prepare For Exam

Tip 1: Start early
Preparation for exams should begin earlier than the day before the test. You can’t cram an entire unit of information into an all-nighter. Get started at least a week before the exam.
Tip 2: Organize
Begin by making yourself a calendar outlining a daily schedule of topics for review. Cover a small amount of material for each class each day. Every time you complete a topic, give yourself a mini review.
Tip 3: Outline
Once you have decided what you need to study and how much time you need to spend studying, it is time to actually study. One of the best ways is to make succinct outlines. As you read over your textbook and class notes, write a brief summary for each topic. Highlight the areas in your outline that were most troublesome. When you have finished with all the material, you will have an outline you can review.
